Picking the Best Tiles for your Kitchen

The kitchen has been a favourite place for people to gather while the cooking is being done. Thus, any kitchen remodel needs to meet utilitarian requirements and create an appealing gathering place. To achieve this, you must know how to pick the right kitchen tiles. Consider the following:

Knowing Where to Install the Tiles in your Kitchen

You can choose to install tiles all the way up to the ceiling to create a feeling of luxury and height.  But, if you prefer to add a splash of colour, put the tile as a splash guard band across the countertops’ top. Consider installing tiles on your countertop, on the walls, on your floor, and even on kitchen islands. The decision is yours to make. Ceramique au Sommet can provide you with more awesome tile ideas.

Picking the Tile Material for Utility

Tiles provide various porosity and attributes. Porcelain and ceramic tiles are hard and quite resistant to water. Glass tends to be fragile and lustrous in the right light. Also, it is waterproof. In kitchens, choosing water-resistant tiles is important since the space can have all sorts of cooking liquids on the tile. If you want tiles for above the stove and as a splash guard, choose ceramic tiles. But, you can also use stone or marble as long as they are properly maintained and sealed.

    Choosing Tiles for Aesthetics

Your remodelling plan may not include your cabinets and countertops since they have been there first. Thus, ensure your tiles work well with these existing elements.  For instance, floral tile patterns can contrast beautifully with all white cabinetry. For modern kitchens, the neutral beige of Travertine is a great choice.

Choosing Colourful Grout and Various Joint Sizes

The addition of a darker grout to the tile patterns will make the joints pop. Such design provides more interest along the big joint lines which makes use of a darker grout than normal. It makes the joints looking more interesting than a tile’s neutral face.

Choosing Between Non-Slip and Polished Shine

If you prefer to install tiles on the floor, you will need to create either a polished or matte surface with your chosen stone. Stones that are somewhat polished provides a dull shine so it can be a bit slippery when compared to a matte finish. But, the semi-polished surface also makes it more resistant to water and thus less likely to stain. Although highly porous, some stone such as marble can have surfaces that can be treated to make them more impermeable to liquids.
