Top 10 Flooring Types for Leisure Centres

A leisure centre is a great place to visit, if you are feeling tired of the usual routine life. It is a place where you can go to relax or keep fit. They provide many facilities like swimming pool, squash courts, sports hall, cafeteria, fitness suite, aerobics studios, sauna and steam room.

Leisure Centres encourage good health, and with their awesome facilities, they’re the heart of many communities. Members can enjoy the swimming pools, gyms or fitness centres, tennis courts, outdoor trails, Jacuzzis or even book one of the rooms and conference centres to host an event.

The leisure industry is indicative of fun in safe, hygienic environments and because they cater for many different people, the décor, facilities and flooring all have to be practical, safe and attractive. There is an extensive range of floor types for these leisure centres –

    • Rubber
    • Foam
    • Hardwood
    • Carpets
    • Vinyl
    • Ceramic tiles
    • Stone tiles
    • Carpet tiles
    • Artificial turf
    • Cork

Each leisure centre floor-type has to cater for the specified environment. There are certain factors too that one has to consider –

    • What kind of traffic will the leisure centre area be contending with?
    • Will the floor be subjected to dry or wet conditions?
    • What kind of temperatures will the floor endure?
    • Some areas will have to offer slip resistance properties

Water is hazardous on floors as it makes the surfaces slippery and unsafe. With indoor swimming pools and change-rooms you want floor covers which resist water and are non-slip.

Floors in the gym for instance will be quite different to flooring in change-room facilities or in lounges and restaurants. Hardwood is the traditional choice for basketball for instance. Good quality wooden floors have many benefits – they last well, they’re easy to clean, they’re hygienic and they don’t encourage unpleasant odours. The only drawback with beautiful wood is the cost. You have to pay for those beautiful looks. Because of the high costs with real hardwood, wood patterned vinyl has become the sought-after alternative. Vinyl is a good choice because it offers a high degree of shock absorption, it looks like the real thing and it is an excellent choice for basketball or for gyms.

Each Floor-Type has Its Own Good Features

Modern fitness centres also have other options. You can for instance even come across rubber floors which are durable and hardy. Then again cork floors have other advantages such as being naturally insulating and environmentally friendly.

You could come across carpets in a cardiovascular fitness centre where you find elliptical machines or treadmills. When there is doubt about certain floors in a leisure centre, floor-type samples are a good idea before making a commitment.

Leisure centre flooring types are visually attractive to complement each area and there has never been such an awesome selection of floor types. Explore more at the right suppliers because they offer a range of carpets, carpet tiles and other specialist floor coverings, all of which deliver high functionality without compromising on good looks.
